Floral Jotters
I feel it is essential for every artist to keep personal projects—big or small—alive, provided they bring joy and spark an even stronger passion for illustration. They need not serve only as a source of income. The real advantage is that in personal work you are your own boss, with your own rules and demands, and the outcome naturally embodies your style. These projects sharpen your skills and build confidence in expressing your illustrative voice, free from someone else’s direction. They should not feel like tasks to tick off, but like the driving force that first made you an artist.
My self‑set brief this time was to choose motifs that echo the charm of children’s illustration. I limited myself strictly to florals. Narratively they are less specific, which makes them more universally appealing, so two purely floral patterns emerged—both in warm, feminine palettes. Then I created a third because I simply could not resist including a dreamy little girl (of course I tucked a few blossoms into her hair). I printed all three designs onto hard-cover jotters and left the insides blank to give you generous creative space. Use one as a notebook, diary, petite recipe keeper or even a mini sketchbook.
Flowers always feel both fresh and nostalgic at once—a lovely pairing.
