A short introduction.
The book is a collection of witty remarks, wise thoughts and conversations of little ballerinas that have been gathered and written down for several years by Tanja Pečenko, a young ballet teacher.
In a playful way the book dispels the stereotypical image of stiff, serious and reserved ballet dancers and replaces it with something completely new, fresh and lively.

Yay, I get to be part of it!
You’ll probably agree that children, music and flowers bring us the greatest joy in life. The illustrations for the book “Male baletke in njihove cvetke” (Little Ballerinas and Their Blossoms) are yet another project that unites all three in the most endearing way. I fell in love with the story content immediately! I’m very happy I could be part of this project. I’m sure you’ll love it too.
The story I tell through the illustrations starts with a stereotypical image of fragile, dreamy ballerinas that gradually fades as the content unfolds. With the images I try to counter the content as much as possible to further highlight the distorted perception of ballerinas.
How did I create the characters?
I gave the characters plenty of empty space so they can move naturally and unobtrusively and stretch across the surface. I also included details of childlike joy, playfulness and inventiveness. I used gentle, subtle and soft colour tones.
