Emerald Forest of Wishes

“Emerald Forest of Wishes” is the first fairy‑tale meditation picture book by Petra Šuštar – a pioneering title of its kind in Slovenia and personally very precious to me as its illustrator.

The story invites the child on a gentle night-time walk through a magical forest. Along the path, different animals help process feelings: some comfort, some offer hope and safety, others bring joy and lightness.

The intentionally limited palette adds airiness; the white of the paper lets characters breathe. Although set at night, the lighter atmosphere mirrors the imaginative inner world where possibility lives. These images open space for conversation – about the tale, about meditation, colour symbolism and emotions.

I see the illustrations as a starting point for deeper reflection, encouraging children (and adults) to pause, feel and create.
